I can’t believe what happened while on tour but I can’t tell you about it on socials for a reason: read this!
I’ve sat down to write this a dozen times, and every time, I’m too exhausted to make it sound coherent. I feel like I’ve been living in an alternate reality.
Sadly, this is just reality.
Over the summer, my dear friend Stormy Daniels and I went on tour together. Initially, it was just planned to be a one-weekend run through Chicago, Cincinnati, and Pittsburgh. However, the response was massive. People traveled far and wide to see our show. Requests came pouring in for us to visit other cities. Honestly, it would have been foolish not to continue forward, not only from the stance of getting our joint messages out there but also financially. We had just sold out three amazing shows!
We scrambled to put together the second round of shows. We were very mindful of the cities we chose. This should have been a home-run.
The second round of shows was scheduled in New Orleans, Huntsville, Nashville, and multiple shows in Hollywood. I produced the shows, which meant I secured the venues, paid all the fees, hired staff to work the shows, and did the promotion, except Hollywood, which was already on the books before our plans to do a second run.
Stormy had one additional show planned outside of our official tour in Asheville, and I was invited last minute to open for that show. Part of why I was asked to do this was that the Asheville show was only sold to half capacity. That seemed strange but didn’t sound off any alarm bells, yet. It’s not unusual to add a second act to boost ticket sales. I only had ten days to work my magic, and thankfully, y’all came through.
We sold out a 500-seat venue.
The upcoming shows were in venues with around 250 seats, which gave us additional confidence that all would be well. Immediately following the Asheville show was my birthday, so I took a few days for some rest and relaxation before the big blitz of the new round of shows.
When the time came for the big announcement, it was crickets. Tickets were selling at a snail's pace. I even wrote a lengthy post about how strange it was, and conservative commentators joyously relishing our failure raked us over the coals for it. Now, let’s take a brief moment to counter-relish the irony of capitalists praising small businesses suffering, but here we are. Despite their ridicule, it didn’t actually make any sense what was happening.
Our show in Vegas had to be canceled due to low ticket sales. We couldn’t justify the additional loss of travel expenses for a 200-seat venue with only 27 tickets sold. Our show in Hollywood was almost reduced to one show, but it became too complicated to pull off, so we went ahead with a half-empty room.
This whole experience was frustrating and embarrassing, and I was hemorrhaging cash. Worst of all, I felt like I had let my friend down. Then there was the practical reality that I had invested thousands of dollars, that I was sure to recoup, on venue rentals only to be publicly humiliated instead. Stormy and I have massive followings in these cities, but I kept getting messages from folks saying they hadn’t heard about it until after we left their respective cities. Hell, we both were born in Louisiana and are heavily connected with this community. I have sold out shows in Huntsville before. We originally had two shows planned there but had to reduce to one. The biggest heartbreak for me personally was Nashville. I wanted to cry as we moved chairs out of the venue to make it seem leas empty.
To make matters worse, we had someone create a disruptive incident in New Orleans, which caused many folks to leave immediately following the show; this resulted in us not reaching our beverage or merch minimums. I’m still working with the venue to create a resolution to this problem.
As a way to recoup my losses, I launched a new merch item called The Legion of Unholy Fans, which is both a legitimate fan club and a joke mocking some of the cruel things that were said about us while on tour. Usually, something like this would have done very well, but it also tanked. I sold 1/3 of what we expected, which didn’t make sense. It was one of the cheapest merch items I’ve ever offered, specifically to make it accessible. We also did an Angel Day for this item, which turned out to be the lowest response we’ve ever had since launching that program.
I was stumped.
Then, after the dust settled, it was reported on the Rachel Maddow show that all mentions of Stormy Daniels were being suppressed across multiple social media platforms.
Some reported that attempts to search her name on any platform showed up blank. After the report aired last week, countless people reached out to me, asking, “Do you think this is what hurt your ticket sales?”
This Monday, Stormy had another show scheduled in New York City, and I was invited last minute to jump on the bill. Immediately following Rachel Maddow's report, our social media reach skyrocketed, and we sold out the show. Imagine that.
Now, I am tired, frustrated, embarrassed, and broke as we head into the holidays.
But I’m a fighter.
I’m stubborn as Hades on a hot day and not ready to make nice.
I’m not ready to back down.
Or whatever it was that Jesus said.
I am going to make three very specific asks. First, if you’d like to support my work on a continuing basis, please subscribe to my Substack below. This is also a good way to ensure that you can still hear from me if something like this happens again.
Second, if Stormy will be near you, please go see her as she continues on the road. You can find her upcoming dates and merch here.
Finally, I am extending the dates for you to join The Legion of Unholy Fans by a couple more days. I can’t do it too much longer because we’ve got to order all of the cards at once to get the bulk discount. So, if you are still waiting on your card, please bear with me for a few more weeks to get them ordered, packaged, and shipped. But it’s likely you’ve never even heard about this fun project yet because of the suppression. But you can order your card here. If we could reach the original number we were shooting for, I could get back into the positive, and this won’t be the massive loss it’s been.
Doing this kind of work comes with risks, and you always brace for any possible pushback, but I’ve never experienced anything quite like this.
I want y’all to know how much I love you and how much Stormy has felt your support. I’m hopeful that we will find some unique ways to continue spreading our message over the next few months, so stay tuned! We aren’t backing down.
Oh, and please fucking vote because if this seems scary, this is all without them having control of the White House.
Were the shows recorded by chance? Would there be some opportunity to sell access to those? That way those of us who couldn't get to a show, or didn't know about it because of the bullshit, would have an opportunity to see it?
I have voted. Early voting in Florida.
Watch your back. My guess is you are on someone's shit list. 🤔 He and his henchmen have a very long list of the Americans in this country that don't need the 1st Amendment. Only need the 2nd.
